How many hours do you need for LCSW licensure in Texas?
3,000 hours of supervised professional clinical experience over at least 24 months, plus at least 100 hours of supervision over the course of those 3,000 hours (22 TAC 781.401(a)(1)(C) and (D)). Texas does not split the 3,000 into direct and indirect hours; the Clinical Supervision Verification Form asks for one total.
How many supervision hours can count in one month?
No more than 10 hours of supervision can be counted in any one month or 30-day period, and supervision has to occur in proportion to the hours you actually work (22 TAC 781.403(b)(8)). Supervision above 10 hours in a month does not count toward the 100.
How long does it take to get LCSW hours in Texas?
At least 24 full months from the start date of supervision, even if you reach 3,000 hours and 100 supervision hours sooner (22 TAC 781.403(b)(7)). BHEC's Supervision FAQs give the example of 30 or more hours a week with one hour of supervision a week, which comes to about 104 supervision hours over 24 months.
Do non-clinical hours count toward the Texas LCSW?
They can, if you also work at least 4 hours per week providing clinical social work (22 TAC 781.401(a)(1)(C)). The Clinical Supervision Plan form asks for at least one practice location with 4 or more hours a week of direct clinical practice.
Is there an individual supervision minimum for Texas LCSW?
Chapter 781 does not state one. Supervision may be individual or group (two to six supervisees), in person or by HIPAA-compliant audio or web (22 TAC 781.403(b)(4) and (5)). A supervision hour is at least 60 minutes (781.102(50)).
Who can supervise an LMSW toward the LCSW?
Only an LCSW with supervisor status, an LCSW-S (22 TAC 781.402). The LMSW and the LCSW-S complete a supervision plan signed by both (781.405(a)). BHEC's FAQs state no limit on how many supervisors you can have at once.
Can an LMSW in Texas own a private practice while earning LCSW hours?
No. An LMSW who plans to apply for the LCSW may not own or operate a private clinical practice (22 TAC 781.407(a)).
