Frequently Asked Questions

How many hours do you need for the LPC in Georgia?
Two years of post-degree Directed Experience under supervision (O.C.G.A. 43-10A-11(a)(2)(B)). Each year is at least 1,000 hours of Directed Experience acquired in not less than a 12-month period (Rule 135-5-.02(a)7(v)), with at least 35 hours of supervision in that 12-month period (Rule 135-5-.02(a)8(v)). All of it must fall within the 60 months before you apply (Rule 135-5-.02(a)7(vi)).
How long does it take to get the LPC in Georgia?
At least two years, because each qualifying year needs at least 12 months however fast you log hours (Rule 135-5-.02(a)7(v)). About 84 Directed Experience hours and 3 supervision hours a month finish each year in 12 months; a slower pace stretches the year until the 1,000 hours and the 35 supervision hours are both met.
How many supervision hours does a Georgia APC need?
At least 35 hours in each 12-month qualifying year (Rule 135-5-.02(a)8(v)). Individual supervision is one supervisor with up to two supervisees; group supervision is one supervisor with up to six (Rule 135-5-.02(a)4).
What is the Contract Affidavit?
Directed Experience counts under a Contract Affidavit registered with the Board, one for each site and supervisor. The applicant, the director and the supervisor each sign it, and any change in direction or supervision needs a new Contract Affidavit within 14 days (Rule 135-5-.01(b)2).
How long is the APC license valid in Georgia?
No more than five years (O.C.G.A. 43-10A-11(c)). The Board counts the five years from the date the APC license was first issued, so plan to finish both qualifying years and apply for the LPC before then.
